Applications due December 17, 2010

Due to increasing demand for its Complete Streets Implementation Workshop series, the National Complete Streets Coalition, in cooperation with the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals, will train 6 to 8 nationally recognized professionals to co-instruct these workshops. These policy-oriented workshops help agencies fast track making their streets more complete. They help jurisdictions develop the political will to change policies and practices to balance the needs of all users; and create, adopt and implement effective policies.

Successful applicants will learn how to conduct Complete Streets Implementation Workshops via webinars, participatory learning in an actual workshop with experienced instructors, and apprenticeship. The cost to become an instructor trainee is $2,000 plus travel, lodging, and meal expenses in conjunction with the participatory learning workshop. Trainees will be paid as full instructors during their apprenticeship, earning back the instruction fee in as little as one workshop.

Successful training applicants will be team players who are:

• Recognized national experts with essential engineering or policy experience in accommodating the needs of bicyclists, pedestrians, transit, older adults, children, or people with disabilities. We do not expect instructors to be expert in all areas.
• Strong, effective presenters with excellent teaching and listening skills
• Able to think on her/his feet and adapt content to fit participant needs
• Available to travel and to teach at least 3 workshops/year (this average is likely but not guaranteed)
• Passionate about complete streets and supporting local, regional, and state entities in developing their complete streets capacity
• APBP members (candidates who are not currently APBP members must become APBP members to be considered)
