The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announces $69,000,000 in funding for brownfields in three grant programs.

The Brownfields Area-Wide Planning Grant program facilitates community involvement as well as the research, training, and technical assistance necessary for brownfields assessment, cleanup, and subsequent reuse. Brownfields area-wide planning grant funding must be directed to specific areas affected by either a single large site or multiple brownfield sites, such as a neighborhood, downtown district, city block, or local commercial corridor, and result in an area-wide plan. Grants will be funded up to $200,000 for a two year project period. The proposal deadline is November 30, 2012.

Technical Assistance to Brownfields Communities Grants are to help move brownfields sites forward in the process toward cleanup and reuse. Nine cooperative agreements will enable communities to participate substantively in brownfields site decisions and in understanding the underlying technical issues associated with a brownfields site. Grants will help with assessing, cleaning up and preparing brownfields sites for redevelopment. The proposal deadline is November 14, 2012

Brownfields Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund and Cleanup Grants address sites contaminated by petroleum and hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants. Applicants can be either community-wide or site-specific, and grants range from $200,000 to $1,000,000. The proposal deadline is November 19, 2012.
