Interested in transportation policy, transit-oriented development, and performance measurement? Join Smart Growth America’s team as our Research & Policy Intern to support policy workshops for governors, multi-state summits for state and local officials, and technical assistance visits. The position requires strong organizational skills, writing, research, and coordination across several projects. Responsibilities will be approximately 50% research, 30% logistical, and 20% other tasks as needed.

Requirements
Candidates should:

  • be self-motivated and detail-oriented;
  • possess excellent writing, oral communication, and research skills;
  • be able to work independently with minimal supervision;
  • have a strong interest in smart growth, transportation issues, or related areas;
  • have at least a bachelor’s degree and either an educational background or work experience in transportation policy, urban planning, environmental studies, real estate, finance, public policy, or a related field; and
  • be highly computer literate with specific experience with web research, database management, Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and HTML/CSS and/or other open source web interfaces are a definite plus.

Timeframe, location, benefits
This internship is a full-time (40 hours a week) position. The internship is available immediately and will continue for six months from the start date. Position is located in Washington, DC. Interns are compensated at $11.50 per hour.
