ON THE HILL REPORT (Katy Hartnett)

  • PARTNERSHIP FOR SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES: Senator Menendez and 16 of his colleagues sent a letter supporting funding for the Partnership to the Chair and Ranking Member of the Senate Approps Committee and Chair and Ranking Member of the T-HUD Subcommittee. Otherwise, there is not movement on T-HUD on the Senate side.
  • House T-HUD is scheduled to be marked up in the subcommittee on July 14th and in the full committee the following week.
  • We are looking to do an e-advocacy push surrounding the House T-HUD bill – either saying thank you (not likely) or to advocate for continued funding.
  • SGA is hosting a briefing on the Hill July 11th highlighting grant recipients as well as someone from the Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities to educate members and their staff about the work being done in communities across the country.

GOVERNOR’S INSTITUTE (Shelly Hazle):

  • An award is being given at New Partners for Smart GrowthState and Local politicians who are Champions of Smart Growth Policy
  • More information about the award can be found here on SGA’s website.

COMMUNICATIONS (Abby Gardner)

  • Communications Training on Positive Messaging How to combat opposition
  • Webinar offered next month and resources will be located on coalition section of our website
  • Please send in regional issues that you’ve encountered!
    • Issues in the bay area- Numbers for projected growth being incorrect, Feeling that this is not the responsibility of denser areas who commute in, NIMBY issues
    • Dru is considering doing a webinar on how to get on a central message and how to show the fiscal impact of smart growth; Starting to do 2 pagers for each county
