Geoff Anderson, President and CEO of Smart Growth America, topped a list out this week from the Partnership for Sustainable Communities of the “most influential leaders” in sustainable community planning and development. Joining Anderson on the list are Smart Growth America board member Kaid Benfield, for his work supporting innovative solutions to sprawling land development and its associated environmental impacts; LOCUS President Christopher Leinberger, for his role as a land use strategist, teacher, developer, researcher, and author who balances business realities with social and environmental issues; and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, the first governor in decades to make major investments in improving California’s aging infrastructure through his Strategic Growth Plan. Anderson, for his part, was recognized for a number of achievements:
Geoff came to his current position in January 2008 after 13 years at the US EPA, where he was instrumental in creating the agency’s Smart Growth program. He cofounded the Smart Growth Network, the New Partners for Smart Growth Conference, and the popular website smartgrowth.org. In addition, he provided seed funding for and helped catalyze the creation of the National Vacant Properties Campaign, the LEED for Neighborhood Development Certification program, and the Governors’ Institute for Community Design. He has co-authored numerous publications and he continues to assist communities with smart growth implementation nationwide.
Congratulations to everyone included on this impressive list! See the full list at P4SC.org.
