On Tuesday we released Empty Spaces, new research looking at the real parking needed at five transit-oriented developments (TODs). The report, produced in partnership the University of Utah, looks at how much less parking is required at TOD than standard engineering guidelines suggest, and how many fewer vehicle trips are generated than those guidelines estimate.

As part of the kickoff of that event, we hosted an online webinar to discuss the findings in more detail. Joining the event were Chris Zimmerman, Vice President for Economic Development at Smart Growth America; Professor Reid Ewing of the University of Utah’s College of Architecture + Planning and the primary author of the research; Patricia Diefenderfer, Senior City Planner for Los Angeles, CA; and Harold Stitt, Senior Planner for the City of Englewood, CO. A recorded version of the discussion is now available in the video above.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for yesterday’s webinar, both as speakers and participants. To learn more about this new research, download the full report.
