As demand for smart growth development rises across the country, real estate developers, investors, and elected officials are looking for innovative approaches to finance these highly complex real estate developments.

The 2015 LOCUS Federal Financing Toolkit serves as a guide for available federal resources and financing opportunities to move real estate projects from concept to realization. In many cases, developers must partner with a community to secure funding with the resources provided. To address this need, the toolkit features federal programs that provide a range of funding opportunities for urban, suburban, and rural developments. Funding resources are organized into the following categories:Brownfields, Community Development, Pollution and the Environment, Housing, Transit and Transportation, and Food Access.

As the real estate industry and public policy makers respond to the pent-up demand for smart growth development, additional funding and financing opportunities may arise. The toolkit is updated annually to reflect these new opportunities and featuresover 40 current programs ranging from Community Development and Brownfields, to Affordable Housing and Transportation. These resources offer a unique opportunity for real estate developers and investors and elected officials to create business opportunities all across the county.
