As a unique advocacy coalition, LOCUS brings together purpose-driven investors and partners to advance and affect smart growth policy and outcomes at the federal, state, and local levels.
Driving Change
LOCUS drives impactful change through a combination of technical assistance, research, and events. Our technical assistance programs support communities in implementing equitable development and smart growth strategies, while our research projects provide valuable insights into real estate and land use trends. LOCUS events create opportunities for members to connect with policymakers, industry leaders, and each other to share best practices and discuss strategies for advancing smart growth.
Technical Assistance
LOCUS offers technical assistance to a variety of partners, including governmental entities and community organizations, to advance smart growth policies and projects. Our assistance includes community engagement, workshops, policy toolkits, and comprehensive analyses. We work directly with stakeholders to develop and implement strategies that promote equitable and sustainable development.
Research
Drawing from the insight and perspectives of the industry leadership in the membership, LOCUS produces compelling research on real estate and land use topics. LOCUS regularly releases new research and quantitative analyses addressing barriers to smart growth, areas of opportunity, and best practices. Recent research projects include Opportunity Zones and the Great Real Estate Reset. LOCUS research can include policy analysis, analysis of industry trends pertaining to smart growth and triple-bottom-line real estate development, quantitative analysis considering municipal fiscal impacts and real estate valuation, and case studies.
Events
LOCUS hosts events, including members’ meetings and the LOCUS Steering Committee In-Person meeting. We also contribute to SGA events such as the annual Equity Summit. LOCUS welcomes partners to promote, support, or contribute to the strategic direction for these convenings.
