EDA Nuclear Closure Communities (NCC) Funding

In May 2020, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced funding for its Nuclear Closure Communities (NCC) program. This effort has allocated $13.5 million in FY2020 and $16.5 million in FY2021 through EDA’s Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) program.

Nuclear Community Support Initiative

This funding aims to aid communities hosting nuclear power plants, fostering economic resilience and readiness for plant closures. Offering competitive resources, it supports capacity-building and addresses closure impacts regardless of the plant's operational status.

Nuclear Community Assistance Program

NCC Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) states that EDA supports regions affected or anticipated to be affected by nuclear power plant closures. Eligible regions can access free technical assistance through the Technical Assistance for Nuclear Communities Program, funded by the U.S. Economic Development Administration and staffed by multiple organizations.

Below are brief snapshots of the awards that EDA has announced to date as part of the NCC program.

These grants support a mix of projects including funding for writing recovery plans and feasibility studies, physical infrastructure improvements projects, nuclear research and development, and much more.
